ThreadSpecs3 ™
60° Tapered Pipe Threads
Three similar profiles are currently supported by the software : NPT,
NPTF, and ANPT.
References :
For NPT product threads and working gages, see ASME B1.20.1-2013.
For NPTF product threads, see ASME B1.20.3-1976; for working and master gages,
see ASME B1.20.5-1991.
For ANPT product threads and working gages, see SAE AS71051B 2008-03.
This software applies ASME B1.20.5-1991
to NPT and ANPT master gages.
Tips on using this software
-
The product screen for tapered threads allows the user to adjust diameters away from basic size, as an aid to gaging.
You should first enter a standoff or diameter adjustment for the E0 dimension. The program will copy that change to the other
pitch diameters. If you subsequently adjust one of the others (E1,E2, or E3), the program will calculate and display the resulting taper.
An out of tolerance condition is indicated by a red background.
-
The tabulated values of some diameters deviate slightly from those in the printed standards. Such differences are within ± 0.00001.
-
For working gages, the standoff tolerance represents the maximum standoff between any working plug and ring, and is specified in the tables of the
referenced standards. For master gages, the standoff tolerance is between a mated ring and plug, and is ±.002, ±.003, or ±.005, depending on the size,
per rules in ASME B1.20.1-2013 and ASME B1.20.5-1991.
-
This software only provides specifications for several commonly used gages, and does not provide instructions for their use.
The user should reference the applicable standards.
Gages
External tapered product threads are gaged using several types of ring. This software provides dimensions for
L1 and L2 Rings.
Internal tapered product threads are gaged using several types of plug. This software provides dimensions for
L1 and L3 Plugs.
Master Rings are used to check the dimensions of work plugs,
and can be used to set indicating gages. This software provides dimensions for L1+L3 Master Rings.
Master Plugs are used to check the dimensions of work rings,
and can be used to set indicating gages. This software provides dimensions for L1/L2 Master Plugs.
